Why the Critique?

The studio critique is a time honored means of providing the artist with an insight as how to better “see” and “read” their work. The best critiques cover formal issues such as balance and harmony, the artist’s intention, whether the piece is finished or not, etc. Most importantly, the critique allows the artist to take a step back and learn to view the work objectively.

With thirty three years of teaching art at the highest level, I conduct critiques with a thoughtful, yet critical eye - balanced with an appreciation of meeting you, the artist, exactly where you are.

INDIVIDUAL CRITIQUE SESSIONS

A virtual studio visit

During our time together, we will look at three to five examples of your recent work. Please bring to the conversation the work that you believe is finished or near completion. I am curious to hear about your journey, your goals and vision, and where you plan to take the work in the future.

This brief, one time meeting can also serve as a perfect way for those interested in mentorship, and to have a better sense of our potential dynamic.

Pricing options:
$200 / hr.
$380 / two hours

We learn from one another

Professional, intimate online group critiques, limited to five participants. Each artist will have the opportunity to present up to three works of art (completed or near completion), and receive twenty minutes of individual critique time.
This format provides the artists the opportunity to listen, learn, and connect with  one another. These robust conversations cover formal issues in artwork, but more importantly, artists feel empowered and excited to return to the studio with a new sense of direction and understanding.
