SALT LAKE CITY, UT

COLOR + DESIGN in Salt Lake City, UT - the town that gets along with anyone

Nestled on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and overlooking the largest inland lake in the western US, Salt Lake is home to a pioneering past and a vibrant present. Apart from majestic nature and four seasons, Salt Lake is proud of its current performing art scene, a multitude of museums and art galleries, fine dining and craft beer.
When the WorkshopSLC invited me to Salt Lake I was excited to visit the surrounding National Parks with Marija (my wife) but the more I read about the city the more I realize we will have to stay a few extra days in the city itself.

During this three day intensive workshop you will immerse yourself into the vast world of:
COLOR
  • Prismatic Colors (primary, secondary and tertiary)
  • Muted Colors
  • Chromatic Grays (their hue and temperature)
  • Achromatic Grays
  • Mixing of the Chromatic and Muted colors
DESIGN
The seven visual elements are line, shape, value, color, mass, space, and texture. Of these, line, value, and color are of special importance because they are the ones which, used singly or in any combination, produce the other elements.

IN SUMMATION:
"The single most important means by which artists integrate the elements and parts of their works is by showing the many kinds of similarities and connections among them. If the teaching of drawing and painting were to be reduced to one word, perhaps the word that comes nearest to embracing much of what artists need to consider above all other factors in the forming of their images is relationships."

Student Testimonials

Thank you Mark for this rich and full experience. My five major takeaways from the workshop -
simplicity, making every move count (stop and be complete), looking at the whole/relationships, careful execution and pausing to really see. I will be processing all of this for some time.

Since the workshop, I feel more confident that I could select three primary colors and go about mixing and planning a color palette for a painting or series. Something I found very intimidating before.

I have known teachers who were simply instructors, and I have known teachers who were excellent and generous. But you Mark, are more than an excellent teacher. Your great reverence and respect for what art is and what it can be are obvious and contagious.
