"Drawing is to me a blessed 'yes' to many things which call me, count on me, hold me, and believe in me..." Rico Lebrun
A seminal moment in my development as a young artist occurred as an undergraduate student, while studying under my mentor, Howard Warshaw, who himself, was a disciple of Rico Lebrun. It was my first week of working from the figure under Howard's watchful eyes. While attempting to polish a kneecap into submission, Howard came up from behind and scolded me: "Mr. Eanes, we are not here to make pretty pictures." Those words have resonated with me for over the last forty years. I draw to make sense of things. I draw to remember. I draw to forget. I draw to imagine the unimaginable. |
